The S&P Global US Services PMI slightly declined to 55.4 in August 2025, down from its peak of 55.7 recorded the previous month. Nevertheless, it stayed well above the market's anticipated figure of 54.2, marking a continued phase of notable growth in US private services activity. Although new business activity for service providers expanded significantly, it did so at a marginally slower pace compared to last month. Meanwhile, sales growth saw the most significant improvement of the year. Furthermore, backlogs of work increased at a rate not seen since May 2022, prompting companies to hire the most new workers since January in response to the heightened demand for capacity. On the pricing side, service providers reported that input costs escalated at the second-fastest rate in over two years, leading to the most substantial rise in output charges within three years.
