Nepal's Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli, submitted his resignation on Tuesday amidst growing anti-government protests following violent clashes resulting in 19 deaths, marking the nation's most severe unrest in decades. In his resignation letter, Oli referred to "the extraordinary situation currently prevailing in the country," with his press secretary explaining that the decision was meant "to ease the current situation." Protestors set fire to Oli’s personal residence, the prime minister’s office, and significant government buildings, including the presidential residence, parliament, and supreme court. Consequently, authorities closed Kathmandu airport, while military and police leaders urged citizens "to exercise restraint to prevent further loss of life," and advocated for "political dialogue." President Ramchandra Paudel invited "all sides," including leaders of the Gen Z protestors, to engage in negotiations to resolve the crisis peacefully.
